This week we are getting to know Jenison Junior High Principal, Brett Cataldo.

What is your favorite summer travel destination and why?

Our favorite summer destination is Lake Michigan.  We spend our summer on or in the water as much as possible.  The Michigan waterways, Lake Michigan specifically is one of the most amazing pieces of water anywhere.  The purpose is to relax, and share great quality time as a family.

What is on your Summer Reading List?
Summer reading list will hold bigraphies about war.  I just read Unbroken and The Lone Survivor.  Both are life changing reads.  I love our country and the military service my family members have given to keep us free!
What are two of your favorite things about working in Jenison?
Two favorites about J-town are 1.  Our students!  They are top notch young people that are going to make an impact on the world.  They are working so hard to learn all they can and participate in activities outside of school to be well rounded.  They motivate me personally on a daily basis with their comitment.  2.  The adults I am around daily are amazing.  I am talking community, parents, and staff.  I say that we have the greatest Junior High in the world and I mean that.  The dedication, hard work, and team work that I am a part of everyday by all people in Jenison makes everyday a blessing.  The staff at the Junior High is a team and a family.  We work together, have fun along the way, but always have the best interest of our students as the focused goal in our building.
What does the beginning of the school year mean to you?
The beginning of the school year is the most exciting time of year.  The anticipation of our students and their energy coming back in the building is awesome.  The new students transitioning to 7th grade are excited and curious.  Our veteran 8th graders with their chance to lead the building – it all comes together to create a fun learning atmosphere that is unrivaled by anything.  The growth from year to year that students gain is the best part.  Watching them continue to grow and become adults through high school and then walk across the stage at graduation – that is the real culmination to our excellent education at JPS!
