This week we are getting to know Jen vanBiljon, Fourth Grade teacher at Sandy Hill Elementary.

Please tell us about your family and/or the people you plan to spend time with this summer?
This summer, I plan to spend a lot of time with my husband. We have no children yet so we’re able to spend quality time with our nieces and nephews. We love to take trips out to the beach. My side of the family resides in Jenison, and my husbands are all in South Africa. We are thankful for the advances in technology so we are able to keep in close contact with them.

What’s on your summer reading list?
I can’t wait to start reading for enjoyment! This luxury is pushed aside during the school year. I plan to read any new book by Karen Kingsbury. There are two waiting to be read on my shelf right now.

Any projects you will attempt to tackle this summer?
I love having time to work on various projects during the summer. Spending time in my yard/garden is always a project I look forward to tackling.

Any fun summer plans?
My goal this summer is to participate in one triathlon each month. I love training for these, and this will keep my days and nights busy. We also have eight weddings in three different states, from Colorado to Illinois to Michigan.

What does the beginning of the school year mean to you?
The beginning of a school year means the beginning of many new and exciting adventures! On the first day of school, I always miss my previous class terribly. Looking ahead though, it’s exciting to think about the new relationships that will be built throughout the year.
